Developed by Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games, Sonic Mania features fast-paced platforming action, stunning 2D graphics, and an amazing soundtrack that will have you humming along for hours. I managed to get it after 25-35 or so tries.Sonic Mania is a throwback to the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games of the 1990s, and it's a must-play for any fan of the series. Getting to Mach 2 is necessary or you wont jump the later chain of islands, and Mach 3 which you're going to get to and need is damn near impossible to control. On the major platform there's a shortcut turn you can miss and end up going the scenic route, putting distance between you and the UFO. You're constantly hopping over islands for the spheres. 2 tries!! Either that was luck or it was easier than the others.ħ: ISLANDS. There's a ramp which has them in the air and one set over spikes.

15 triesĦ: Nearly All the rings are in the air via bumper capsules. Also got it by maintaining Mach 2 to Mach 3. There's a ramp that leads to rings in the sky, but you can't spend too much time collecting them or you'll fall in the pit. It's not the first stage to have it but, it's here a lot. What makes this tricky is ramps + Bumper capsules. You're bound to fall off and the paths are narrow so you need to avoid the dirt and jump. 3 tries.Ĥ: There's a Mach capsule, but when I missed it (after getting the ring capsule) and didn't die, I found it easier to just chase after the UFO pursuing rings and blue spheres. It seems the key is the Mach up capsule but I completed the stage before I tested it. One that is tough is the diamond platforms with the bumpers in between. 4 triesģ: This introduces the Bumper Capsule, which are needed to traverse gaps and spike balls and are needed to get other item capsules. You're going to need Mach 3 to catch them this time as I had 20 of 50ish remaining when I got it. ESPECIALLY IN A BACK AND FORWARD WAVE MOTION. Seems they want you to get the Mach Capsule in the air.Ģ: Moving Spike Balls are a dumb idea because you can't anticipate when they're moving toward/away from you. It seems you need Mach 3 to catch the UFO. You should be able to beat it on lap 2 at Mach 2.ġ: The layout of the ramp isn't aligned with the landing. Though I died to "Course Out" trying to jump corners at Mach 2, it's only difficultly is in the dirt making the paths narrow, slowing you down. Mach 3 makes this course impossible and you'll fall off several times, can't make the turns, or hit the mines.ħ: Actually easier than the previous three since it's rather straightforward. The three capsules path is out of the way and on Mach 2 is tough to turn as you can miss it.Ħ: This one is tough due to it's layout, having few bumpers and the turns being really tight like the ring capsule-spike ball roundabout and the first ring capsule turn. Then there's the fact the layout is all over the place making it tough to discern what you should do. Each one is higher than the other, so miss a capsule and you can't get the others, making the stage that much harder. The trick is to get these capsules in a row which get you 20 rings and a Mach boost. Taking sidesteps to get rings out of the way of the UFO risks you of losing it.ĥ: This one is tough due to it's layout. You have to get rings early so you can keep up with the UFO. There's a shortcut over a pit you have to make. Maybe I should attempt that jump on Mach 2. I try to do it on Mach 1 so I have a healthy ring count, but often fall. Jumping over a ramp to get a ring capsule is tough. Luckily a ring capsule is there.Ĥ: This one is the most difficult stage.

There's also another shortcut that involves a tight turn w/ spikes and missing the ramps and rings, so having enough rings is paramount. It's here you have to know to Jump and Turn to make it though. The first ring circle shortcut is the toughest part of this stage. This is important because the UFO's take them all. You have to look at the arrows which point out the shortcuts.

This is where they really expect you to know how to do these stages. I think they still hold true today.Ģ: Pretty Easy, there's a Mach Boost Arrow and the spikes are avoidable.ģ: This one I couldn't pass the entire playthough. These were my thoughts when I played each stage a few years back.
